In an eventful season, it was an excellent year for both Abbey View ladies and Draycott mens teams as both clubs picked up several pieces of silverware, with Draycott men picking up a league and cup double for the second year running.
Ladies
With the ladies league split into two divisions it was left to Abbey View to clinch both titles by some distance. Endon A took the honours in the Foundation Cup, drawing 2-2 with Basford in the final, but capturing the crown on count back - it transpired that Endon had won 1 more game than Basford!!!
Men 1
Draycott A comfortably retained the mens Division 1 crown, as they led the division from start to finish. Draycott A then went on to beat Endon A 3-1 to lift the Sporting Trophies Cup and to achieve the league and cup double for the second year running. Rumours that they are changing their name to Arsenal for the forthcoming season are unconfirmed. There was not such good news for Endon B however who slipped into Division 2, where they will be joined by Knypersley B.
Men 2
Draycott A weren't the only team who managed to capture two trophies. The Borough A enjoyed a successful season, easily taking mens division 2 and then securing the Dale Cup. Having screwed up big style the previous season, Stone A made no mistake this time round, holding off strong challenges from both Florence B and Westlands to move into the elite. At the other end of the table Basford B were relegated by Easter, but not quite so clear cut was who would fall through the trap door with them. A Barry Sergeant led fightback in the second half of the campaign ensured survival for Bucknall A, and meant that Knypersley C would be demoted.
Men 3
Having narrowly missed out on promotion for the last two seasons Alsager FR A made absolutely no mistake this time round, clinching promotion in emphatic style - Played 16 Won 16. Stone B made it a double promotion celebration for this particular club as they finished runners-up. Propping up the division were Bucknall B who were sentenced to Division 4 tennis in 2003, alongside Draycott C.
Men 4
A Jimmy Evans inspired Florence D took the honours in Division 4 as they steam rolled their way to the championship. For a long time it looked as though Endon D would join them, but right at the death Abbey View came through to take the second spot.
Mixed
More success for Draycott, as they won the title by just one point from Alsager A and prevent Alsager from lifting the title for the fifth consecutive year.
